Status of Recently Banned Medicines in India

By Swapan Das, Calcutta

We have observed that off late, there is a huge surge of visitors to our site and many of them are interested in knowing the latest status of recent banned medicines in India - the courts stay orders, steps taken by regulatory bodies and pharma associations for this. The readers should understand that this site is not a news agency and have certain limitations and sometimes becomes beyond the scope of this site to provide every news related to this.
The readers should watch the "news boxes/panels" provided in this site for the latest, live news esp. related to Human Placental Extract. We have also introduced the "Search Box" feature so that you can search for the posts related to your interests. For example supply the search words like:

  • banned drugs
  • madras high court
  • video
  • placentrex

or any other keyword you are interested in, related posts (if exists) will popup on the screen.

But seeing the visitors demand we spoke to Mr. T S Jaishankar, chairman of CIPI (Confederation of Indian Pharmaceutical Industries) on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 after their hearing at Madras High Court. According to him CIPI  applied the petition for Nimesulide & PPA while CIPLA Ltd. applied the petition against the notification of the Union Health Ministry (GSR 82 E) dated February 10, 2011. And both of them got interim stay on this on March 30, 2011.

We request the readers esp. who are more interested into other banned drugs other then Human Placental Extract, to visit the CIPI's website to know the details, download court's order copies in this regard. It also contains other news like "Appointment of DCGI challenged in Madras HC after 3 years in service". In this regard our courtesy is also to Ramesh Shankar of Pharmabiz.com.
